4th of July Ideas + Homemade Wedding Cake
...And just like that, after all that build-up, they're married!! Even though my feet are still aching from all that dancing (next time, I am going to wear flats!!) I still feel like I'm flying! It's all a bit surreal and is going to take me some time to process it all so that I can properly describe just how truly spectacular, gorgeous and heartwarming it all was.
But I can brag about the wedding cake that's pictured above-- no, I didn't make it but my new daughter-in-law did...by HERSELF!!! With a little help from my son and his friend, but still... And it's not like she's a professional baker or anything, although she probably should be. Absolutely jaw-dropping!! Seriously, it tasted as good as it looks which kinda never happens with such big cakes. You can only imagine how much work went into it, not to mention the 300 eggs and a lifetime-of-cholesterol amount of butter!! You all know I bake a lot, but I still can't imagine pulling it off!!
But alas, it's no rest for the weary, 'cause the 4th is almost upon us. Understandably, I haven't been trying out many new recipes lately, so I'm sharing a few tried and true favorites from the past. Not sure how we'll be celebrating yet, but I do know it will involve something simple and yummy since it's about a bazillion degrees outside and after a weekend (really a week) of partying, we are all fairly exhausted! So in no particular order and without a heck of a lot of thought really (I have to admit, my brain's on overload) here goes:
2. Jalapeño and Lime Steak Tacos
4. Grilled Chicken Burgers with Copycat Shake Shack Sauce
5. Grilled Chicken with Tangy Peach Glaze
6. Chicken, Mango and Scallion Tacos
8. Grilled Veggie Quesadillas with Corn Relish
9. Layered Summer Vegetable Casserole
13. Zucchini Slaw
16. Jiffies
17. Peanut Butter M&M's Rice Krispies Treats
18. Easy Toasted Coconut Key Lime Pie Bars
20. Flat, Chewy Heath Bar Chocolate Chunk Cookies
23. Brownie Ice Cream Sandwiches
