About Me
Hi! I’m Felicia, the somewhat obsessed baker, breakfast, lunch and dinner maker and musical theater lyricist/librettist (more on that later). For a long time now, it’s just been me, my oven and my trusty spatulas, cooking away for my three teenage kids and husband as well as my extended family. All of us—my mom, grandma, two sisters, the husbands, kids and dogs live in the same town in Westchester, NY (we grew up here too—obviously none of us has any understanding of the “ you can’t go home again” idea). Almost all holidays,birthdays/anniversaries/ celebrations/BBQ's etc. happen at Chez Felicia. In fact, my little 6 year old niece doesn't consider it a birthday unless she has her birthday dinner here!
I grew up in a home where food and the planning of what we would eat for lunch next Tuesday, reigned supreme. My dad thought nothing of driving four hours to Boston for the best homemade ice cream or of going to 4 different Chinese take out places to bring back the best egg rolls, hot and sour soup, sesame chicken and fried rice that each particular restaurant had to offer. “Going out to get a goodie” was a regular family event and it took years for me to properly train my husband in the critical importance of this pursuit. My mom was, and still is, a great family cook and a lot of my favorite recipes come straight from her and my grandma, who while she didn’t incorporate a lot of variety into her repertoire, made basic food that tasted great. And that’s what I’m going to try to do here—offer up tasty family friendly recipes without too many steps or hard-to-find, fancy-pantsy ingredients. That’s not to say that there won’t be the occasional decadent dessert, but we can try to be healthy most of the time, right?
And now for some drama—no joke—I have been involved in some aspect of theater for almost my entire life. I was a professional dancer, did a tour of 42nd Street and taught at dance studios in NYC and the tri-state area for many years. At the same time, with my partner of more than 20 years (yikes!), I have been writing musicals—comedies, dramas, revues—you name it. And cast members have come to expect a homemade yummy confection at every rehearsal. If you’re curious, here’s a sampling of my non-culinary creations:
But here on Unwritten Recipes, the only drama will be how to find enough time in the day to concoct all of the tempting recipes that I am surrounded by.
